What is Apple Health?

In Washington state, Medicaid is called Apple Health. The Washington Apple Health Medicaid program provides health insurance for 1.9 million adults and children with limited income and resources (households at or below 138% of the Federal Poverty Level qualify).

Apple Health provides insurance for about a quarter of all Washingtonians. Apple Health’s managed care plans cover integrated physical and behavioral health care.

Washingtonians rely on Apple Health to get health care:

  • 60% of nursing home residents in Washington rely on Medicaid.
  • 40% of children in Washington rely on Medicaid for a healthy start.
  • Over one third of all births in Washington are covered by Medicaid.

Unfortunately, the federal government recently passed the largest cut to Medicaid in history. These cuts could cause at least 250,000 Washingtonians to lose their Apple Health coverage.
